How To Play this Game

This app allows you to play a multimedia educational game, and earn a free entry in a drawing for an X-BOX X !

There are signs at seven locations around the fairgrounds that bear the image of our hero CENTENNIAL SAM and a QR-code. Each sign looks much like the image below.

Point your phone's camera at the QR code to go to a game page, where you will receive some historical information, followed by a simple question. If you answer the question correctly, you will receive a "badge".

If you earn all seven badges, show your phone's "BADGES" screen to the Everett Herald table, in the Event Center, where you will fill out your entry into a drawing for an X-Box X !

Only people completing this challenge will be in the drawing! Snohomish County Employees and members of the Snohomish County Historic Preservation Commission and their immediate families are not eligible for the grand prize drawing.

You can press the "BADGES" button below at any time to see how many badges you have earned, or press the "HOME" button to return to our main game page.

You can take until Sept 16th to finish the game - no need to finish in one day!

OK - GAME"S ON !

Sam Broadwith, now sometimes called Centennial Sam, arrived in Snohomish County in 1894. He was the son of a well-off marine merchant in New England. His father owned lands and ships, but also had 11 other sons older than Sam! By the time Sam realized there would be little for him to inherit, he was 23 years old. Sam immediately set off for the West to make his fortune.

We know from various historic records some of where he went, and what he did, but then he disappears from history. Follow his trail, and help us find out:

What happened to Centennial Sam?

CLUE #1: To start your search, find the home of the First Peoples, with whom Sam visited. You'll see a Centennial Sam sign there.
